Daniel Ricciardo is hopeful Red Bulls long run pace means he can put pressure on the Mercedes drivers from third on the grid at the German Grand Prix.An impressive lap from Ricciardo saw him out-qualify Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen as the team once again locked out the second row. He finished four tenths off polesitter Nico Rosberg but thinks Red Bull might be closer to the world champions in the race.I think we got pretty close to be honest, Ricciardo said. My first lap in Q3 was really good and I knew there probably wasnt that much more on the table with my second run. In the end a couple of mistakes so maybe a tenth [closer] with the perfect lap but not enough to challenge the pole. Were close enough, I said yesterday if we can be within half a second thats not a bad day in qualifying. Hopefully we can do something tomorrow and from what I understand we might have different tyres available to us for the race so hopefully that mmakes a difference.ddddddddddddRicciardo is buoyed by Red Bulls long run pace over the weekend and says his attention is very much on the Mercedes cars ahead rather than the two Ferraris behind.I think on low fuel yesterday Mercedes had a pretty good buffer over everyone and the long race pace we looked to be closer than that. That was giving us good optimism going into Sunday. Obviously today it got a bit closer than we were yesterday, so lets see.Hopefully it translates into something tomorrow, even to put a little bit of pressure of them at some point in the race would be nice but lets see tomorrow, you never know what could happen, the race tracks change day-to-day with the temperature and whatever but Red Bull looking pretty good, locking out the second row and hopefully we can do something tomorrow.
