BERLIN -- Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl scored the only goal as his team consolidated second place in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win at his former club Freiburg on Sunday. Kehls goal came against the run of play in the 58th minute when he swept the ball over Freiburg goalkeeper Oliver Baumann from around 25 metres with his left foot. "We didnt really have any shots on goal. Dortmund neither -- apart from Kehls shot," Baumann said. "Its annoying, because we were holding our own." The result prevented Freiburg from escaping the relegation zone with a win. It would have been the clubs 100th home win in 500 Bundesliga games. Dortmund restored its 20-point gap behind runaway leader Bayern Munich. "Whoever wins these sorts of games becomes champion, but that doesnt apply (this season)," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp joked, referring to Bayerns unprecedented form. Both Dortmund and Freiburg cancelled each other out in a first half of few real threats, and there werent many more chances in the second. "It was a lucky win for us. You have to say that," Dortmund defender Mats Hummels said. Dortmunds Sokratis was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card at the end of the first when he appeared to take down the surging Philipp Zulechner. "If he showed a card at all, it should be red as he was the last defender," Zulechner said. Mainz drew 1-1 at home with Hertha Berlin in Sundays late game, a result that cost both sides the chance to climb into the European qualification places. Hertha goalkeeper Thomas Kraft made a series of key interventions as the home side came closest to scoring in the first half. Adrian Ramos put the visitors ahead in the 51st, when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting lost the ball to Per Skjelbred, who set up the Colombian striker to shoot inside the far post. Choupo-Moting atoned in the 65th with a well-struck penalty, conceded when Sami Allagui brought down Koo Ja-Cheol. "We made unnecessary mistakes in the first half but improved in the second," said Hertha coach Jos Luhukay, whose side remains ninth, two points behind seventh-placed Mainz. "Were happy with the point." Miikka Kiprusoff Jersey . -- Theres nothing like winning to bring hope for a struggling team. Doug Gilmour Jersey . Setting United on its way to a 2-0 victory, Rooney sent the ball high from inside the halfway line over goalkeeper Adrian after just seven minutes. "Its just instinct, Ive turned and had a quick look and seen the goalkeeper off his line," Rooney said. "Its one of those Ive tried many times and thankfully today its gone in." Just as it did on the opening day of the 1996-97 season for Beckham, who lobbed Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan from the halfway line. "Waynes technical ability, his awareness to know where the goalkeeper was, was amazing in the build-up, and then to actually execute it was superb," United manager David Moyes said. "My only worry was whether the bounce would take it over the bar or not." Moyes was actually more pleased with the second after the wonder goal. Rooney was primed in front of goal to slot in from close range in the 33rd after Mark Noble failed to fully clear Ashley Youngs low cross.dddddddddddd "He was getting in the box and leading the line," Moyes said of Rooney. Rooneys first double in almost four months moved him to third on Uniteds all-time scoring chart, 38 behind Bobby Charltons record 249. The striker, who signed a new deal through June 2019 last month, thrived at Upton Park in the absence of Robin van Persie, who is beginning at least a month out with a left knee injury. Moyes almost had to cope with a makeshift defence as United reeled off a third consecutive away win in the league without conceding, days after advancing to a Champions League quarterfinal with Bayern Munich by beating Olympiakos. However rare this comfortable league win was for Moyes seventh-place side, reaching the top four seems beyond this team, with Arsenal 11 points in front in fourth place. "The win on Wednesday night against Olympiakos has given us all a big lift," Rooney said. "You could see today the confidence running through the team, so its a good victory and were really pleased with that." 16:22ET 22-03-14 Wholesale MLB Orioles JerseysRed Sox Jerseys From ChinaDiscount Yankees Jerseys OnlineRays Jerseys For SaleBlue Jays Jerseys From ChinaWholesale MLB White Sox JerseysIndians Jerseys For SaleTigers Jerseys From ChinaWholesale MLB Astros JerseysCheap Baseball Angels JerseysAthletics Jerseys From ChinaMariners Jerseys For SaleCheap Baseball Rangers JerseysBraves Jerseys For SaleDiscount Marlins Jerseys OnlineDiscount Mets Jerseys OnlinePhillies Jerseys From ChinaWholesale MLB Nationals JerseysCubs Jerseys From ChinaDiscount Reds Jerseys OnlineBrewers Jerseys From ChinaWholesale MLB Pirates JerseysWholesale MLB Cardinals JerseysDiamondbacks Jerseys For SaleRockies Jerseys For SaleDiscount Dodgers Jerseys OnlineDiscount Padres Jerseys OnlineGiants Jerseys For Sale ' ' '
