Gary Neville has questioned the need for a Football Association selection panel as he feels they have already decided Gareth Southgate is their man. Southgate looks to be in a strong position for the England managers job after leading them to two wins and two draws during his time as interim boss, with the formal process to appoint the next manager beginning on Wednesday, as initially reported in The Times. But the Football Association will be keen to get the right person for the job after Sam Allardyces short reign and former Chelsea and England defender Graeme Le Saux is set to be consulted on his views, along with Howard Wilkinson. However, the pair will not be part of the official selection panel, which will consist of FA chief executive Martin Glenn, chairman Greg Clarke and technical director Dan Ashworth. Give it to Gareth Jordan Henderson says Gareth Southgate has improved England Neville believes the FA are over-complicating the process. I woke up this morning and saw that a selection panel has been announced - talk about ticking boxes and making things more convoluted and difficult for yourselves, Neville told Sky Sports News HQ.Putting people on commissions that shouldnt be on it which then get forgotten about - I dont know why they do it.That panel wasnt in place three months ago. It wasnt there when the last manager was in place why is it now? They think they need governance in place when in fact they dont. They just need to do their jobs and let the football people, who are good people with a good way of working, make the decisions. Neville says Wayne Rooney has entered a new phase of his career in which he will not play every week for Manchester United Unless they come up with a shock appointment - and thats not going to happen, they are going to appoint Southgate, thats a fact - why put a selection panel in place? It just doesnt make sense.Im a little dubious about things like that. There will be people saying it needs to have an independent process - but if they wanted it, put in place four years ago. They just need to do their jobs and let the football people make the decisions. Nev on FA selection panel Southgates interim period at the helm ended with a 2-2 draw at Wembley in a friendly against Spain on Tuesday and Neville, who won 85 caps for England and was assistant manager to Roy Hodgson, thinks Southgate is the right man to take England forward. I do think he should get the job - he deserves it, he said. The fact hes gone through the right pathway with the under-21s serves him well. He knows the players, he knows the FA and he knows international football as hes been through it with the under-21s. Englands players have thrown their support behind Southgate to be given the managers job on a full-time basis He fits all the criteria. The job should be given to an Englishman - Gareth is the most outstanding candidate, irrespective whether England drew against Spain or even if they lost against Scotland.Stay tuned to Sky Sports News HQ and our digital platforms for Gary Nevilles analysis of Manchester Uniteds clash with Arsenal on Saturday live on Sky Sports 1 HD.Upgrade to Sky Sports now to watch Man Utd v Arsenal this Saturday and get the first six months half price! Under-pressure Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has moved on from attacking England coach Eddie Jones by turning his attentions to another former Randwick teammate: Glen Ella.Ella told the Daily Mail that Cheika would be having nightmares about losing again to Jones following the 3-0 series whitewash in Australia earlier this year.He also criticised his reaction to a New Zealand newspaper who portrayed him as a clown on its front cover. But Cheika, whos been in attack mode all week as the Wallabies build to a huge clash with England, appears to have had enough, especially after dreams of a grand slam were dashed 27-24 by Ireland in Dublin.Ella was part of Jones backroom team during the June series and although hes no longer part of the England set-up, Cheika didnt hold back when asked about his comments. Its funny, you know everyones up the front of the bus when theyve had a win, a guy like Glen in particular, Cheika said.Hes always up the front of the bus for a handout when hes had a win.But when its tough and youve got to run uphill, havent seen that bloke or havent seen a few of those blokes around.I dont think hes working with England anymore but any Aussie that would be supporting England against Australia, especially a guy that has played for the Wallabies, theres got to be a reason why.I dont know if hes bitter. Maybe they want to get us kicked out and have a job there, Im not sure. After his memorable end to 2015 when he took an unfancied side to thee World Cup final, Cheika is facing the first major test of his international coaching tenure.ddddddddddddDefeat at Twickenham would see him end the year with a record of six defeats and nine losses from 15 matches and he admits if he was to be sacked, he couldnt ever see a day when he would coach against Australia.Im upset about losing at the time of course, yeah, and then you get over it, he said. But for the year as a whole? I think weve improved and were going well and well stay working on our things and when the bigger tournaments come around well see if that plan worked out or not for both sides. If a person decides to do that (coach against Australia), thats OK.No one was saying anything bad when Eddie was coaching Japan. Youve got to keep that level. Its your approach to your old team. Each to their own.Despite the verbal sparring from the two coaches, Cheika said he respects Jones and said playing the media was all part of the veteran coachs plan.Hes just geeing up. I remember when he was coaching Queensland and they were 0-and-13 and they got beaten by 95 in South Africa, he said. There was a bit of grief for a day or two but then no one was pointing the finger at him forever.Hes respected for that by me as a former teammate of his and as a player. I think you saw when he was in Australia that he got a lot of respect. ' ' '
