The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) is missing an opportunity to make a profound statement about gender equality in sports.

This should have been a feel-good moment for everyone involved. There was only one problem: Solo set the record while awaiting a November -trial for assaulting her sister and nephew last summer.

Granted, such cases have proven difficult to adjudicate - as evidenced by the NFL's bungled attempts to do so. As a far less prominent organization, the USSF doesn't possess the NFL's public relations mechanisms.
